Educational programs

All children have the right to education, but there are many children who are hindered by poverty, negative cultural customs and parents who do not prioritize education. New Life mission focuses on children’s right to education by supporting children from vulnerable environments who have missed school and ended up in destructive behavior in the slums.

Girls in the Maasai area are particularly vulnerable and certainly not something that is obvious. It will take courage and persistence if she is to stand up to genital mutilation and child marriage.
Thank you for wanting to support an educational site and make a difference now, and for a long time to come.

Vocational training

Within the organization’s New Life missions, there are four vocational trainings. Here, young people get the chance to leave crime, prostitution and exclusion. After many years of social involvement in the slums and area of Kwarre outside Nairobi, the organization has decided to offer alternative solutions to get out of poverty by learning a trade in automotive/sheet metal, sewing/production of life bags/pattern and bakery. After the training, there are great opportunities to cope with becoming self-employed and receive a regular income.

Together we equip young people with a stable foundation and working life!

Kindergarten & preschool activities

In the slum area of Kware, on the outskirts of Nairobi, is one of the New Life mission kindergarten and Primary School. Here, children from extremely poor homes receive an education, nutritious food and health care. In the kindergarten, the children are left by parents who seek day work in the slums where crime poses a constant threat to their safety. The kindergarten offers children a safe place where they can play and rest.

In Maasai Mashuru, preschool is an important foundation for children who are otherwise forced to work caring for livestock. The nomadic tribe that lives here does not prioritize education or development. At preschool, children also learn about their rights. Something that gives them the opportunity to influence their own future.

Water projects

Clean water saves lives! In the semi-desert area of Mashuru and Magadi there is not enough clean water. Knowledge about water-related diseases is lacking, which is why many children die from, among other things, diarrhea. Through the New life mission, you can be involved in changing the situation by drilling a well. At the same time, you give increased quality of life to many women who otherwise would have had to walk several miles to find water. In Kenya, about 50% of the population lives in poverty, a major scarce commodity is clean water. An important project is the 10,000L water bowser in Magadi and a water kiosk in Ongata, where many vulnerable families fetch water. A few years ago, the organization in Ongata invested in a water treatment plant that sells “Samaritan Drinking water” in bottles, the surplus goes to social efforts for children in the slums.

Lifebag changes lives

Many single parents seek help with their everyday finances at the social welfare office. It can be matters such as paying school fees, rent and that there is no money for food. Therefore, the bag project has great importance for women in the slums, by braiding bags and learning a craft, many get to experience great joy.

I don’t have to worry about not finding a day job and thus returning to my family empty-handed. The women have named the bag LIFE BAG because it contributes to a functioning everyday life that changes lives.

Mobile Health Clinic

The Maasai people living far away from medical facilities are not able to access hospitals. NLM offers JeepLine Program which is a mobile car, fully equipped,  that goes deep into the bush to offer medical care to the Maasai people.

Thank you for your gift that contributes to children’s access to health care and opportunities to take care of their hygiene. Together, we can offer quality medical care to the people in Mashuru and Magadi.

Enlightenment and protection for vulnerable girls.

In crises, children – and especially girls – are more vulnerable, many girls are exploited. Through outreach with social workers and administrators from the New Life mission, we can quickly be on site and offer protection, education and health care. When girls have access to their rights, they can change the world. Girls in the Maasai tradition feel doubly discriminated against, both because they are girls and because they are children. With this gift, you support projects for girls’ rights. It is about girls not being forced into female circumcision, or child marriage, but that they should be allowed to go to school. It is also about the whole family, society and decision-makers being able to change the situation and allow girls to decide over their own lives.

Help for children with disabilities in the slums

Living in a vulnerable environment with special needs is a big challenge. On a home visit, David talks about his difficulties in getting to school because his one leg is twisted and much shorter than the other leg. His great desire is to get a small wheelchair. During the conversation in the tin house, his mother tells him that the family cannot afford to visit the hospital and get the surgery he needs. But that she is happy that the collaboration with the food program gives the children lunch every day. The parents cook the food and we contribute the ingredients. Through teams and volunteers, we also contribute to educational activities during school hours.
